Basic Information

Nestled at the foot of Mt. Diablo in Walnut Creek, California is Foothill Middle School. Much like our beloved mountain, Foothill offers extraordinary vistas for our students. Our school’s journey began in 1962 when Foothill was established to provide educational services to the students of a mostly rural and expanding suburban community. Early on Foothill’s reputation was of a school whose students achieved academic excellence. As we continue that journey some 50 years later we now look to providing today’s students with a 21 Century education that recognizes not only the needs of each student but also the ever changing landscape they face in high school and beyond.

The Foothill Community is committed to provide a safe, orderly, respectful and supportive environment conducive to academic learning and self-growth. We encourage tolerance and understanding by supporting initiatives to address today’s pressing problems including the proper use of social media and standing together against bullying and harassment. Our rich school culture includes art, music, theater, world languages, ecology, and community service.

We encourage a cooperative and supportive educational partnership among students, staff, parents, and community. This partnership provides resources and support to enhance student learning and ensure student success. The development of a Foothill Strategic Plan in collaboration with all the stakeholders will assist us in building a strong infra-structure to support our 21st Century learning goals. The learning environment also expands beyond the walls of a classroom to include the rich resources of our community including programs like Project Lead The Way and UC Berkeley's Web-based Science Inquiry Environment (WISE).
